Xbox is Getting New Hardware in 2027
In a recent earnings call Lisa Su AMD CEO claimed that Xbox will have a device with AMD semi custom silicon in 2027. This seems to track with the average console lifecycle of 7-8 years given the Xbox Series launched in 2020.My immediate thought is that this was mentioned as a single device rather than a series of devices I'm also kinda shocked that there will be new hardware at all.
Value Steam Machine
My prediction given the trend towards merging Xbox and windows together this new device will be almost akin to the new Steam machine (Which Lisa also said is set to come early this year) in that it will essentially be a custom box, an Xbox if you will, that starts off in the new Xbox mode that Microsoft added for the Asus Xbox Ally X and then can be switched into normal windows 11 desktop mode this would then net the best of both worlds and an actual unique USP for the xbox for the first time in a long time.

Especially if that Xbox mode is more integrated and able to run actual Xbox games for games that doesn't support play anywhere as well as windows games rather than just a interface to run windows games. Meaning you could in theory one minute be playing the Xbox 360 version of Halo 3 then switch to the PC version of Arc Raiders. Also running windows it would have the ability to run steam (where notably Sony publishes all their Play Station games) and epic store games too to make this a one stop shop for all things gaming.

Certainly with the way Xbox hardware is selling here in 2026 I hope they certainly are trying to think outside the box this time. For all the reasons I dislike Microsoft I do hope they don't abandon the console market it as this would just leave Sony as the only dedicated Home console (yes there's Nintendo but the Switch and the Switch 2 are really Handhelds first)
